Good Night at the Sand Bar in Jefferson Valley NY
This past Friday, I wandered up to the Sandbar in Jefferson Valley. It was a special event, all proceeds were going to a barmaid, Niki, who recently flipped her auto and broke some bones. So it was a good cause and on top of that some damn good music. Bands included the Scared Stiffs, Ugly Friend, The Tortured Vagrants, The Life Size Gorgeous Cocktails, among otheres.
It was just a good night and I got to some local bands that rocked . As I parked, I could hear some Zeppelin coming from inside and thought is was just a CD. In fact it was one band doing a pretty damn good job with a couple of their songs. As I went to the bar to get a beer, they wenton to do some Blondie and that worked too. There was one or two other covers that grabbed me, so that was pretty meat.
Next up was Ugly Friend followed by the Scared Stiffs, both of which were in good form. The Scared Stiffs were missing their dentist/ guitarist, but they made it thru fine. Both bands were tight. The night it seemd was just kind of neat as everybody seemed to know everybody. Much of the crowd were in bands that were playing or at least do play the Sand Bar periodically. It was againt this backdrop of familiarity that their performances were just kind of neat. They just were kind of relaxed and did their thing.
The last band that I caught was, I believe, the Life Size Gorgeous cocktails, which is just a neat name, and on top of that had a sax player join them. they did a Stones song ot wo and then were joined at some point by Scott and Chris from the Scared Stiffs and others. Became a Jam Session doing a Lou Reed song and a Doors tune. By tht time I was done and called it a night, but looked like they were aiming to keep going. God bless them!
I do wish I had gotten there earlier. Tom O'Reilly's band, which I do not know the name of, did a set. From what I was told by him later, they cover some Motown tunes. It would have just been neat as Tom is the man behind More Sugar, A monthly paper, which basically keeps track of the local music scene. It would have been cool to see the publisher of the paper jump into the mix. Anyway it was a fun night, and just nice to see a bunch of talent from the area do their stuff, all in one place in one night.
So for those of you in Westchester or Dutchess counties, do check out the Sand Bar.
