One Reason To Stay Home

Generally here I am talking about shows I went to, shows I want to get to, shows-bands I am promoting. That is what the Wild West and FeastofNoise are about-promoting bands and shows. Well that was the case.

I have always had a fascination with technology, with the web, with computers and just tinkering with those things. That interest is one of the reasons I have this site. Another of the things that I have been pondering are the all things on the web to watch today. There is Youtube of course with the tons of music videos and the miscellaneous silly home videos. Charlie Rose has all of his interviews on the web. there is Hulu, which recently started, with it various network TV shows now on the web. There are several sites for indie movies and stuff that just has to be hunted down. In short there is a bunch of stuff to watch on the web and computer today.

So with that, I wanted to get my computer hooked up to my TV. With all the stuff on my PC, I want to watch it from my couch. I want to watch this stuff in comfort. Sadly I have an older computer and older TV. if I had newer systems, the project would have entailed a cable and a couple settings on the PC. I had no such luck.

Regardless, I was determined to get the two talking. I did some preliminary research and thought a weird little cable from off of Amazon would do the job, but it did not. that cost $5.00 but did not work. So I went back to research what was needed. Ultimately I installed a new video card that was TV compatible. And with that I now had a S video output on the computer, and that worked as the TV also had a S Video input.

I proceeded to get an audio cable, and connected both the audio and S Video cables from the TV to the computer. And then a moment of truth-turning on both TV and computer, and clicking through the TV inputs to AV2, and once there-there was the desktop of the computer. Success.

Now there are some issues. The video is not HD-it is still an old TV complete with tube, but the image is workable. As my computer is older, the processor is slower and the video card, even though newer and TV compatible, is not the best, so we did have to trim the load of the graphics - allowing for the video to be its best. also just getting the text to be readable from the couch had to be addressed. One annoying thing, due to the video card I would guess, is that I have to manually have to turn of the computer. that has to be figured out. . .

So with all of that, I sit here, making my Youtube playlists, looking for new sites to kickback and watch. . . all from my couch. No shows, no bands tonight.
