Two Thoughts for the Night. . .

Two random thoughts for the night. Both having to do with Acoustic Sundays at Mr. D's Pub and Lounge.

Quick and painless. . .

thought number one: Do you know how many social network sites there are? Too many! Right now you can find me or one of my aliases on MySpace, Facebook, on Yahoo's Events, Lohud, and just last night Meetups (which sounds like a dating or pick up site). the one I should be in but not yet is reverb nation. Next week. Factor in the the Google calendar, westchester rocks calendar, and craig's list-it all gets to be too much!

We would be on channel 12's site too, but I refuse to go find my cable account number!

thought number two: Like it or not, searching out acts for Acoustic Sundays is broadening my horizons. Oh I am a music whore anyway, so it is no real surprise that I am digging alot of the new stuff I am checking out!

See you all in Yonkers this Sunday for the New Professionals, Michelle d'Angelis, and Seize the Night. Show kicks off at 4:00 PM.

April 13-The New Professionals Hit Acoustic Sundays at Mr. D’s in Yonkers NY!

The New Professionals make their debut at Acoustic Sunday’s at Mr. D’s on Sunday, April 13th.

Acoustic Sundays are an acoustic jam and more, with featured artists and bands every week!

Sunday, April 13 we have the New Professionals, Michelle DeAngelis, and Seize the Night.

Mr. D’s Pub and Lounge is located at 748 Yonkers Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10704.

Shows start at 4:00 PM.

No cover to enter.

Must be 21.

The New Professionals making their debut at Mr. D’s on Sunday, April 13th.

The New Professionals are gearing up for their second CD, Coffee and Medication, which follows their first, Come Hell or High Drama. The New Professionals is fronted by Karen Curious, covering the vocals and bass duties. The band also includes Texas, a drummer who is known in and around the NY scene for his work in Banana Fish Zero among others. With Karen’s unique voice, a solid band behind her, and some great tunes, they will leave more than an impression!

In addition to the New Professionals, featured artists include Michelle D’Angelis and Seize the Night.

Michelle is a classically trained pianist who found her true passion in writing music, and has performed in various NYC clubs and venues. She is currently working on her first album which she intends to have out before the end of the year. We are happy to have her join us!

Seize the Night is an acoustic rock duo based out of Westchester, NY who bring a "minimalist acoustic" style to both some classic and contemporary tunes. I know one of these folks but what intrigues me is their “minimalist acoustic” approach. It is quite like my stripping away that wall of sound, which is part of what the Acoustic Sundays are all about. Seize the Night are new and this I believe will be their debut anywhere! Come and check them out.

Come and check these artists out and if you play, bring your guitar or keyboard with you. All are welcome!

And do not forget, this Sunday, April 6th-today, we have TJay, JSanti, the Priestess and the Fool and Pigeon?

Who said you can’t party on Sunday!

Rocking Show, But For Thirty Bucks?

Last Friday, the local radio station, the Peak, 107.1 had a show down at the Vintage in White Plains NY. It featured two relatively unknown acts, Daniella Cotton and Back Door Slam. both have been getting some attention though, and that attention is deserved. Hopefully, we will hear more from both of these acts!

So two cool acts at the Vintage, which is a great bar and venue in White Plains. And the place was packed! It was very cool to see a capacity crowd for a rock show happening in Westchester. It confirmed that folks will come out and support rock and check out a good show! It was nice to see someone working to bring rock to Westchester and succeeding!

The one thing that threw me, however, was the price tag. To get into this show, the price was $30. That is alot of money for two bands that are really just starting. Remember, the Wild West had some decent acts in the Vintage awhile back, and some folks were upset that I was charging $10. Packing the place at $30 a head just entitles the station to that much more credit. No doubt they had their costs and I trust the bands got paid. We are talking a radio station that boasts world class rock.

What was amazing to me was the amount of advertising done on the station to get the word out, It was the Peak's birthday celebration too but boy they truly did push this event! That is the scary part. Today you have to do that much advertising to fill a venue.

I just do not think it was always that way. It is today though. It is a challenge.

Do Note-the flyer at the top of the page is from 2005! It is a flyer from another show with two very cool bands, but not advertised like the Peak show. It took place three years ago and is done!
